Privacy policy

The short version

Meez turns recipe links into visual cooking guides. You can use it without an account. If you do sign in, we keep the minimum we need to run your cookbook and shopping list, and we don’t sell your data to anyone.

What we collect

• Account details. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo. If you sign in by email link, we keep your email address.
• Your recipes. The URLs you import and the recipe content we extract from them, plus recipes you save and rate.
• Your lists and posts. Shopping-list items you add, and the “I made it” photos, clips and captions you post. Posts are public and show your first name and last initial (or “A home cook” if you turn off “Show my name on recipes”). We remove location and camera data from photos before we store them.
• Usage data. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages visited, general location, device type). Anonymous visitors also get a daily import counter so we can enforce fair-use limits.

How we use it

To run the product: importing and displaying recipes, generating cooking guides and narration, syncing your cookbook and shopping list across devices, sending sign-in emails, and keeping the service safe from abuse. Recipe text is processed by AI services (Anthropic for step generation, ElevenLabs for narration audio) to build your cooking guides — those providers process the recipe content, not your account details.

Photos, clip frames and captions you post are checked automatically for unsafe content by OpenAI’s moderation service before they go live; OpenAI receives the image or text, not your account details. Clips are stored and streamed by Mux, our video host.

Restaurants near you

To show Michelin restaurants near you, our server looks up the approximate city of your IP address in a database we keep on our own servers. The address is used for that one lookup and is never stored or shared. If you tap "Use my location", your browser asks first and sends us your rounded position for the same purpose, and it isn't stored either. Ratings, photos and reviews on the restaurant pages come from Google.

This product includes GeoLite2 data created by MaxMind, available from maxmind.com.

Your kitchen, on your device

The "Your kitchen" area at the bottom of each page shows the recipes you've looked at, the cuisines you've explored and the Cook Modes you've started. If you're not signed in, that list is kept only in your browser's storage on this device. It is never sent to us, and clearing your browser's site data removes it. When you're signed in, the numbers come from your account (what you've cooked, saved and imported) and are shown only to you.

The weekly digest

If you subscribe to our recipe newsletter (or leave "Weekly Recipe Inspiration" on in Settings), we store your email address and the recipe preferences you choose, and use them only to send that weekly email. Every digest includes a one-click unsubscribe link that works immediately — no login, no confirmation step — and unsubscribing also turns the Settings toggle off. We never share the newsletter list with anyone.

Where it lives

Your data is stored with our infrastructure providers: a Neon PostgreSQL database and DigitalOcean Spaces file storage (photos and images), Mux for clips, with email delivery via Resend. We keep it only as long as your account exists.

Cookies

We set a session cookie to keep you signed in, and Google Analytics sets its usual measurement cookies. There is no advertising or cross-site tracking.

Your choices

You can use Meez without an account. You can delete photos you’ve uploaded at any time. To access, correct, or delete everything we hold about you, email [email protected] and we’ll take care of it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll update the date at the top and note it on this page.
