El Chingón

Imagine your best local authentic Mexican restaurant but elevate its atmosphere and execution. The tortillas are literally some of the best I have had, so soft and chewy with dimples of char. The proteins are marinated and grilled, with simple but bold flavors expressed in the lingering colors of the sauces. The Remolacha was the sleeper dish. The paste of nuts under the golden beats were a refreshing new type of dish I'd never seen in this type of cuisine. One caveat, the small room makes it quit loud so be prepared to do a little shouting.

As an LA native turned Philly resident, trying east coast Mexican food seemed interesting. Not only did I eat incredible food but I also ate my words. El Chingon is a show stopper of quality, service, and simple complexity. Each dish was better than the last!

Amazing restaurant! The birria tacos were incredibly flavorful and perfectly seasoned, and the salsa they bring to the table is outstanding, easily the best birria tacos I’ve ever had. The service was wonderful and very attentive, and the atmosphere is nice and chic without being loud, so you can actually enjoy conversation with your guest. Seating can be a bit tight in some areas, but it’s ideal for parties of 2–4, or you can sit at the long bar for more space. Also, it’s BYOB, so if you want a great drink with your meal, be sure to bring it with you.
