A warm Bay Ridge spot for Yemeni cooking, known for slow-cooked lamb haneeth and bubbling beef fahsa, with fresh seafood on the menu too. Flatbread comes warm from the fire, and free hot chai is served at the back counter. It suits family-style meals with a group.

Located at 7721 5th Ave in Brooklyn NY the restaurant Yemenat brings you authentic Yemeni cuisine that you will remember! The parking in Bayridge is a little tricky but I can tell you the hassle is worth it! The exterior is clean and inviting, the interior is very clean and inviting with around 30-40 seats. They are open everyday from 1:00pm to 11:00pm, I did a late lunch/early dinner around 2:30pm and was able to get a seat without a reservation. The servers were friendly and informative and helped me with my choices. I started with a house salad and a refreshing drink with limeade, mint and milk called Aseer Leem. The salad was crisp with fresh tomatoes, onions and a variety of leafy greens with a delightful vinaigrette. The Aseer Leem hit the spot on a summer day, the full flavor will definitely quench your thirst. My main dish was Lamb Haneeth, braised and marinated Lamb that was the most tender and succulent lamb I have ever eaten over delicious Hadami rice and sahawq(a Yemeni salsa). When combined with the warm and fresh Rashoosh (Yemeni bread) rice, and salsa it transcends your tastebuds to a different stratosphere. I will stand by what I said earlier…”Best Lamb I have ever had”…sorry mom! Highly recommend you try this restaurant! It definitely earned its place on the Michelin guide and NY times top 100 restaurants!

I would give them a review higher than 5 stars if I could. We got several appetizers and a main dish. Everything we got was an explosion of flavor. The shafoot appetizer was very fresh and minty. The bread was so light with the perfect layers of soft and crispy. Use that to dip in the spiced feta and it tastes heavenly. The rice was delicious, it could be a meal on its own. The lamb was perfectly seasoned and falling off the bone. The staff was extremely friendly and polite. The raisin drink was such a treat. There are gluten free options.

Highly recommend! Do make a reservation. We waited almost an hour via walk-in the 1st time. Second visit was no wait due to a couple of days after snowstorm. This is one of the better restaurants in Bayridge. We've been there twice and both times we enjoyed our food. We love that their food is not overly seasoned nor salted. For example, the lamb haneeth - the meat tasted balanced and was complimented by the rice. My son claimed that it's the best lamb he ever had. Almost every dish we tried were well executed. I recommend the lamb haneeth, lamb fahsa and bent asahn for dessert. Wife and adult kids had the grill muva fish, chicken fahem & lamb burma. Salad comes with some of their dishes. Don't recall which ones. Definitely get their large round bread if it does not come with your meal. There is self-serve tea at the back counter. We'll definitely return to try other dishes.
